Fletcher: New interim boss

Carl Fletcher: New interim boss at Home Park

Well, Plymouth Argyle have gone for the cheap option, not a surprise in their current circumstances, and chosen the player sent off in their 2-0 defeat at Roots Hall Saturday after grabbing midfielder Michael Timlin by the throat as their new boss!

Discipline may not improve then, but they'll be hoping results do down Devon way.

Fletcher, 31, will take the role of manager and be assisted by long-serving goalkeeper Romain Larrieu.

The duo, who are both on the playing staff at the club, take over from Peter Reid, who was sacked by the Pilgrims' acting chairman Peter Ridsdale on Sunday.

Plymouth are rock-bottom of the table with just one point from nine matches and suffered their tenth consequtive defeat in all competitions at the weekend.

Fletcher told www.pafc.co.uk: "I can assure all of our supporters that I will give nothing short of 100% in attempting to turn round our fortunes on the field. I believe that, with the current squad and perhaps one or two additions, there is no reason why we cannot return to winning ways sooner rather than later. Our supporters have been magnificent during a turbulent period in our history and I am sure that, with their continued help, we can quickly put the past behind us and start to climb back up the Football League."

What else can he say.

Meanwhile, about that sending off for assulting our nice loanee then.

Fletched explained to www.thisisdevon.co.uk: "There is no excuse. I just think the whole situation, on and off the field, got to me and I saw the red mist. Like I say, it’s not an excuse, I should be more mature than that. I apologise to the staff, the players and the fans. It’s not acceptable. It’s the first time I have been sent-off at Plymouth so it’s a bit out of character. It just got to me. It got to boiling point, which is not like me in life as well. I just flipped a little bit. We haven’t won a game this season, we haven’t been paid, and the referee was having a shocker. I just think everything piled up and I flipped my lid, but it’s no excuse.”

Just what you want to inspire the lads, good luck Plymouth.
