Goulding: Scored only goal

Jeff Goulding: Scored only goal against the Stanley to put his team into third lace, for now!

Five in a row, everybody's doing it now, as the Gloucester boys follow Southend and Crawley by grabbing 15 points form thier last five football league games.

It might be only for 24 hours, but Mark Yates and his Cheltenham Town side have made a serious move by beating Accrington Stanley 1-0 away Friday evening and finding themselves in the automatic promotion places!

The feeling was that John Coleman would have his toughest season yet in the football league with the Lancashire club as the fortress that was the Crown Ground has now been breached four times, and it was the Shrimpers who started it all, 2-1 back in August.

Accrington Stanley 0 Cheltenham Town 1 (played Friday, October 21st)

Robins striker Jeff Goulding replaced James Spencer - who had been booked and was in danger of picking up another one - after 44 minutes. Moments later he collected Luke Garbutt's ball forward 30 yards out and looped the ball over the stranded Ian Dunbavin.

It was the Robins' first shot on target after Stanley had created the better chances.

Loan striker Will Hatfield had a fierce shot saved by goalkeeper Jack Butland and James Spray was denied from close range.

After the break, Alan Bennett had a shot cleared off the line for the visitors and Russell Penn could only find the side-netting in a breakaway as Cheltenham looked to get a two-goal cushion.

Stanley threw everything at Cheltenham in the last 10 minutes but the visitors held on for an important win.
