Fletcher: Hopes crisis ends soon

Fletcher: 'Hopefully, it's drawing to a conclusion'

The Pilgrims caretaker manager Carl Fletcher, along with the rest of the Argyle squad, was on Monday shown the plans for repayment of outstanding wages put forward by James Brent's Akkeron Group - the investors aiming to save the club from liquidation.

And while Fletcher conceded getting each individual's approval - from both the current squad and those who have left Plymouth - is a time-consuming process, he has high hopes the nightmare will not last much longer.

He told www.thisisdevon.co.uk: "It kind of comes down to each individual now and, fingers crossed, everything will get sorted out sooner rather than later. Some people are still here and some are at other places. So it's a case of getting in contact with them all and, hopefully, everything gets done to everyone's satisfaction. I'm sure it might be easier for some people than for others. We are getting down to the nitty gritty of sums and figures now. Hopefully, it's drawing to a conclusion."

This follows Tuesday's news that he investors looking to save Plymouth from liquidation have submitted their final proposals to settle outstanding wages.

Players and staff at Home Park have not been paid in full this year and, with time running out for a deal to be agreed, Akkeron Group chairman James Brent has urged those owed money to take up the offer.

The proposal includes a sum paid upon the takeover being concluded, as well as incremental payments each month and full remuneration after a certain length of time.

In a statement released by his group on Tuesday, Brent said: "The selfless approach of staff and players is what has kept this football club alive on life support. While we would clearly have liked to offer faster payment of PAFC's debts to employees, the proposal is the best the company can safely offer. I hope the payments can be accelerated through the receipt of unbudgeted income. I hope also that the current and previous employees will accept these proposals. While risks to a rescue remain, this will be an important step forward in avoiding liquidation."

Everyone at S24 wishes Argyle the best of luck in getting over these problems, there for the grace and all that we wouldn't be facing Morecambe on Saturday as league leaders in front of a packed Roots Hall.

The fightback has to start somewhere, but whether it can happen soon enough to stop a disastrous drop into the Blue Square Premier we will have to wait and see.
