Ex-Shrimper striker signs for Shrews while Luke goes for a Shot

Prince Harry to try and rule over the Shrews

Not sure they know what they'll getting but Southend will be welcoming a few former players next season at Roots Hall, and one of them will be a striker that it would be fair to say was not on everyone's Christmas card list, one Matty Harrold.

After being on trial with Swedish club Orgryte and turning down Conference side Grimsby Town, Matt has signed for League Two rivals Shewsbury Town.

New Shrews boss Graham Turner, strange writing that after all his years with Hereford, told www.shrewsburytown.com: "I'm delighted to have got a striker of Matt's experience on board with us. The injuries to Kris Bright and Nathan Elder have left us a little light up front and Matt is exactly what I was looking for. He has arrived at a good time, allowing him to be involved in all the pre-season games which will help him gain his fitness and settle in at the football club.'

25-year-old Harrold scored 17 goals in 73 appearances for Wycombe and could play against us on Saturday, November 20th when we visit, no not the wonderful Gay Meadow, but the all new Greenhous Meadow!

And stop taking the piss, he did score against us for the Chairboys last August, though hopefully Sturrock will have us marking from corners this season!

On top of that Gary Richards eventually signed a two-year extention with Gillingham, so we could see him, Mark Bentley and ex-Captain Kevin Maher again.

While an old favourite of mine before he turned to the dark side, and became crap, is the always charming Luke 'Horace', (he kep that quiet), Gutteridge, who has gone to Aldershot after being released by Northampton Town at the end of the last season.

Guttridge told BBC Surrey: "I said to my agent that there's a manager here who really wants me. The big thing is he was trying to get me in all summer. I just wanted to repay the faith. It's very rare you get teams in the lower leagues who try to play football. I liked what I saw and from what my agent and other people said it seemed like the right place to come and play football."

Let's hope we don't like what we see too much when we visit the Shots in our first away fixture on Saturday, August 14th.
