Pitman: Turned club around
Jamie Pitman: Not a bad first six months in charge

At last for the Bulls the ghost of Graham Turner, now enjoying success at Shrewsbury Town, has been banished from Edgar Street.

Hereford United are close to securing their Football League survival with four matches remaining, something which seemed a long way off when Pitman was promoted from club physio at the start of October, a caretaker made good.

Under Simon Davey's disastorous reign the Bulls propped up the basement division with just five points and four goals from their opening ten games, but young Jamie turned the club around and the club now find themselves on 47 points and in 18th position, six above the drop zone and a win away from that magical 50-point mark with four games remaining.

In fact they would have been already their but for the kick-in-the-guts three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player for which they are appealing anyway.

The 35-year-old was at hereford as a midfielder for two playing spells between 1996 and 1998 and was also at the club from 2002-06.

Pitman was initially appointed as caretaker boss in the wake of Davey's dismissal with the job being made permanent in December until the end of the season.

He also added to his impressive CV taking the Bulls to the FA Cup Fourth Round for only the eighth time in their history, and was twice nominated for League Two's manager of the month award.

And finally EEB is happy because going to Herefordshire is a great trip and his favourite pub crawl in the fourth tier, and he won't be saying that about Crawley!

Pitman told www.herefordunited.co.uk: "I'm delighted and thrilled to be given the chance to lead the Bulls into the future. This club is in my blood."

While the Bulls chairman David Keyte added: "The results of Jamie's hard work are there for all to see. Thanks to him and his team we've had a great turnaround in form this year and he richly deserves the chance to lead us forward."
