Adams set free by Seagulls, Iron seen off by Robins

Brighton manager Micky Adams has left the club by mutual consent.

The 47-year-old has been under increasing pressure in recent weeks with the Seagulls languishing in the relegation zone in League One.

Albion chairman Dick Knight told the club's website: "I am very sad, as all Albion fans will be, that things have not worked out."

Dean White and Bob Booker will take charge of the team against Millwall on Saturday, where they won 1-0, and Northampton on Tuesday.

Adams took charge of Brighton for the second time in May 2008, having led the club to the old Third Division title during his first spell in charge from 1999 to 2001.

Bristol Rovers 0 Leicester City 1

In-form striker Matty Fryatt was ten-man Leicester's saviour again as the runaway leaders survived a second-half scare to pick up all three points against Bristol Rovers.

Leicester weathered an early storm and took the lead in the 20th minute when Fryatt smashed home Matt Oakley's pin-point cross.

But just as The Foxes thought they were home and dry, Jack Hobbs saw red for a reckless tackle on Daryl Duffy in the area in the 54th minute - only for Leicester keeper Mark Bunn to deny Richard Lambert from the spot.

Lambert nearly made amends minutes later but failed to hit the target before Bunn was again called into action to deny Chris Lines late on.

Hereford United 0 Peterborough United 1

Peterborough striker Aaron McLean netted the only goal as The Posh ground out a crucial victory against struggling Hereford.

With things hotting up in the League One promotion race Peterborough marked their intent as early as the third minute with McLean powering home George Boyd's neat through ball.

Hereford battled valiantly but Kris Taylor's tame effort before the break was all they had to offer as Peterborough's solid back line held their nerve at Edgar Street.

Tranmere Rovers 1 MK Dons 1

High-flying MK Dons saw their relentless promotion push halted as Terry Gornell levelled seven minutes from time.

Peter Leven had looked set to hog the headlines; scoring a 70th-minute penalty after Anthony Kay had stupidly upended Aaron Wilbraham.

But Tranmere, who are now unbeaten in 11 home league games, preserved their record as Chris Shuker's corner was bundled home by Gornell.

Yeovil Town 2 Oldham Athletic 2

Relegation-threatened Yeovil produced a battling performance for new boss Terry Skiverton - recovering from a shambolic start.

Deane Smalley opened the scoring for Oldham after just 11 minutes, but just four minutes later Gavin Tomlin equalised with a headed goal.

On 33 minutes Tomlin added his second with a smart finish, before Terrell Forbes put through his own net six minutes later to hand Oldham a much-needed leveller.

Swindon Town 4 Scunthorpe United 2

Nine-man Scunthorpe shot themselves in the foot - throwing away a two-goal lead after two needless second-half sending-offs.

Cliff Byrne was shown his second yellow card less than a minute into the second-half for a foul on Michael Timlin.

While on the hour it got worse for Scunthorpe as David Mirfin picked up a straight red card for a lunge on Simon Fox.

Goals from Gary Hooper and Arsenal loannee Henri Lansbury looked like sending the points back to Glanford Park.

But Timlin pulled a goal back for Swindon on 62 minutes, before Andrew Wright put through his own net to level.

Hal Robson-Kanu and Lee Peacock both scored late goals as Swindon somehow hijacked the points.

Millwall 0 Brighton & Hove Albion 1

Millwall were left kicking themselves after relegation-threatened Brighton performed daylight robbery at the New Den.

Former Celtic defender Adam Virgo was the star of the show for the Seagulls, heading home on 73 minutes after he was picked out by Chris Birchall.

Brighton goalkeeper Michael Kuipers enjoyed a busy afternoon, swatting aside a succession of weak Millwall efforts.

Carlisle United 1 Stockport County 2

Stockport winger Tommy Rowe's second-half strike was enough to hand The Hatters back-to-back wins and condemn Carlisle to their 15th defeat of the season.

Carlisle flew out of the blocks and nearly took the lead when former Cardiff midfielder Graham Kavanagh clipped the top of the bar after four minutes.

However fortunes favoured the brave and Stockport stunned The Cumbrians minutes later when Dominic Blizzard rounded off a great solo effort.

Carlisle pulled level eight minutes after the restart through Lewis Neal but it wasn't to be with Rowe firing the winner for The Hatters in the 70th minute.

Leeds United 2 Cheltenham Town 0

Leeds midfielder Jonathan Howson bagged a double as Simon Grayson's troops marched ever closer to the League One play-offs.

Leeds dominated the first half but failed to go in at the break ahead with Argentinean striker Luciano Becchio twice coming close.

The absence of in-form striker Jermaine Beckford through suspension was painfully beginning to show until nine minutes after the restart when Howson finally found the net.

The 20-year-old headed home Andy Robinson's pin-point cross before grabbing a second to seal an important three points in the 65th minute.

Crewe Alexandra 3 Huddersfield Town 1

Crewe duo Tom Pope and Clayton Donaldson netted twice in the space of two second-half minutes to give The Alex the hope of a way out of relegation.

Crewe, struggling at the wrong end of the table, never got going early on and found themselves a goal down in the 30th minute when James Berrett bundled home from four yards.

However The Terriers' joy was short-lived and Byron Moore linked up with Pope before calmly slotting home from the edge of the area.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors after the restart with Pope going from provider to goal-scorer in the 58th minute before Donaldson sealed the deal minutes later.

Northampton Town 0 Walsall 2

Walsall are now unbeaten in four games as late goals from Stephen Hughes and Jabo Ibehre handed the Midlanders the points.

The game looked destined to head for a goalless draw but Hughes had other ideas scoring with a low effort eight minutes from time.

And three minutes into stoppage time Ibehre combined with former England international Michael Ricketts to bank the win.

Colchester United 0 Southend United 1

Blues midfielder Franck Moussa's solo strike gifted Southend the bragging right over Essex rivals Colchester - in a game that contained six yellow cards.

Hartlepool United 0 Leyton Orient 1

Leyton Orient defender Tamika Mkandawire netted a last-gaps winner as O's boss Geraint Williams' great start continued against Hartlepool.

Hartlepool - six points above The O's prior to kick-off - failed to make the home advantage count in the opening 45 minutes with Leyton Orient loanee Jordan Spence's booking the only highlight.

However it was a different story in the second half with first Simon Church heading against the post for The O's and Gary Liddle peppering visiting keeper Jamie Jones.

Both teams threw men forward for the winner and it was the Londoners who found it when Mkandawire lashed home after Arran Lee-Barrett parried Scott McGleish's stinging shot in the 80th minute.
