The Moose finds a home

One of the few bright lights in a dark period for Shrimpers has been the form of 19 year old Franck Moussa in midfield.

In fact if he hadn't have been sent off against Brighton he might never have been left out of the side and been sent out on loan to League Two Wycombe Wanderers.

The tremendous form of Coventry bound Lee Sawyer also affecting his first team chances.

However, after returning from playing under Spud Taylor's table topping side he has looked fitter and sharper as team mates have fallen by the wayside for various reasons.

When Macca was injured at Stockport the return of the Moose as a sub brought this comment from BoyWonder2 on the ShrimperZone message board: Moussa - Thought he did quite well to be honest.

Well, it's a start!

Next up was Orient and on for the whole 90 minutes, or should I say 98, where he was many Shrimpers man of the match, I gave him a 7 in the match report.

Thurrock Blue on these very pages said: Moussa - Liked him a lot tonight, did the right things well; 8.

While 4 comments on Shrimperzone were, from seany t: Moussa - 7. Our second best player tonight over the 90. Good simple Maher-esque passing, good venturing forward towards the end and progressive with the ball). Move him centre Tilly.

bazzashrimper: Moose 8.5 - I can't remember ever thinking I'd seen Moose play well. Tonight he was superb. Fantastic touch, passing brilliant, made some tackles. Can't remember him giving the ball away. Well played son.

The saafender: Moussa - MOM for me. Some classy touches and as has already been said played a Maher-eque role. I know we havent got much choice now but has to start the next few and get a run in the side.

Angell Delight summed it up: Best player on the pitch last night, so much quality on the ball. Keep playing like that son and you won't be here long.......

Not so much praise against Yeovil, then again who did, but still mainly positive with a low of 6, one in my TLG report I'm afraid, sorry Franck, though some gave 7 and I saw an odd 8!

With Grant being suspended and Macca injured he'll definitely play against Leeds tonight and if he stays fit I would be surprised if he doesn't stay in the side for a long run.

Finally, what does the man himself have to say? Here he is being interviewed by the Southend Evening Echo before the Leeds game.

"I want to establish myself as a regular in the first team now and play every game. At 19 I'm at a good age where I can really start to claim my place in the team and not as a back-up or fringe player anymore. It will be down to me to impress the manager and keep on doing well so hopefully I can do that at Leeds."

The Moose accepts that making nine appearances in a confident Wycombe side has not done his progress at Southend any harm.

"It definitely helped me going there. It was very enjoyable playing in a good team at Wycombe. They are a good club and it was pleasing to be playing regular football. They are also a good passing side, so that was something I am used to. The manager Peter Taylor was quite clear and made me understand what he wanted from me."
