Moose Watch IV

Last updated : 25 August 2008 By Shrimpers24
Certainly everyone around me in the West Stand was equally upset when the red card was produced on Friday, it also seemed to upset Mr. Singh more as this usually reliable ref's game fell apart. Trying to even it up he gave several poor decisions to both sides, he seemed to know he'd maybe been a bit quick on the draw. The appeal should reveal more but the 19 year old, who had been his usual reliable self up to then, was in obvious distress. A good photo of Grant consoling him can be seen on the site.

Sadly it was obvious that Brighton were taking more control of the midfield in the second half as The Moose and Grant did not have the strength to hold them back. Both good footballers but not right together. Whether Sawyer is the answer, plenty of skill but again very young and learning his trade we will have to see, but we know Tilly is looking for a more experienced pro and I'm afraid that has to be the answer with Franck suspended or not.

The Moose himself, speaking to the official site, made the following comments: "I didn't think it was the right thing at the time and having seen it it on television, I still don't. I slid in sideways and thought it was a so-so tackle. I won the ball and was shocked and confused when the decision went against me, let alone being sent off."

Dave the Shrimper posed this question on www.shrimperzone.com;

Before I get canned I liked Francky boy a lot and I think in time he will prove to be a very good player.

However I think his red tonight might prove to be a blessing in disguise. Our midfield of Grant and Moussa has little of no creativity and we currently have almost no cover on the middle bar an 18 year old lad who is totally untested.

Assuming Moussa get a three game ban I feel we will need a midfielder to come in before the Walsall game as we simply cannot go forward with Sawyer and Grant in the middle.

Moussa for my mind would benefit from a loan spell at a Brentford or a Barnet somewhere like that where he can work on his strength as I feel at the moment he has made little or no impact in any of the three league games I have seen this season.

Great prospect but not there yet............

The following 22 posts tended to agree with him and I gave him a 6 in my match report, tie lowest mark along with keeper Steve and Clarkey in what was an overall good peformance from Tilly's men which I'm confident would have produced a result with Mr. Singh's unfortunate intervention.

Other comments from the same forum which show how many views you can have of one important incident:

Yes Mr Singh was bad but Moussa was diving in recklessly all evening and wasnt surprised to see him go. (Clinton Baptiste)

Moussa - 5 - Said Red Card before the ref had got a card out. You can't go in studs up and expect to stay on the pitch. Until then was neet and tidy. The sending off unfortunately bought his rating down for me as it obviously put more pressure on us, game was delicately poised. (NCDO)

Moussa 5 - Stupid tackle for the red card and didn't do much before that either other than stand about five yards from Grant at all times. (Beefy)

Haven't seen the Moussa tackle close up, but my gut feeling is that it was a very harsh decision indeed.

Did it cost us the game? Well it may have cost us a point, but despite our domination of the first half, I couldn't see us scoring if we had played all night.

The sending off, and again, the bench has highlighted our ridiculous lack of depth in our squad, and that absolutely HAS to be addressed this week - no excuses, we have to have an experienced midfielder brought into the side, and for my money, a striker wouldn;t go amiss either.

You pays your money ect. However, if the red card sticks, and let's face it's unusual to go against the ref, though it did happen for Richards at Oldham, the Moose might be available for Saturday but after that it could be a while before there's another Moose Watch!
