SCUNTHORPE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS £42.00

Scunny on a Tuesday night is a difficult trip but how about this for an ideal solution thanks to help from "Shrimpers on Line":

Get the train to Scunthorpe Tuesday afternoon prices from £27.00 single, plenty of time for eating drinking or whatever, no trains back but "Shrimpers on Line" coach offer the luxury of falling out of the ground and whisking you back to beautiful South East Essex for only £15.00 single.

Go to:
www.theshrimpers-online.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=8

Return fare for train out Coach back only £30.50 and you get back the same night (well early hours anyway)

A good deal for anyone working in London only having to take a half day off work, or for anyone Southend based that's fancies the luxury of mixed transport.

TICKETS

Adults £18, Seniors and Students and 16-21 year olds £11, Under 16's £6.

COACH

For the latest news and prices and pick-up points for the supporters club coaches click on www.shrimperstrust.co.uk/default.asp?page_id=557

For an alternative journey keep up to date with SoL Travel at www.theshrimpers-online.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=8.
as well as full details of catching the coach for the return journey only.

www.nationalexpress.co.uk
and www.megabus.co.uk have cheap coaches to Sheffield, there was a £1.50 available on megabus, where there is a £11.50 train return to Scunny from Sheffield station, then an overnight trip back from Sheffield arriving at dawn the next day in London. Obviously this is not much use unless you can get off most of Tuesday and possibily Wednesday, (or have a shower at work in London!), so the best bet is definitly the SoL mixed transport deal, the supporters club coaches, or the car!

TRAIN

The Cheapest return train fare I can find is now £114.50 out Tuesday back Wednesday at 7.30am!.

If you haven't got tickets but must get a train up due to work there are some £27 singles left to sunny scunny then the £15 SoL coach back, see above.

Tickets must be bought in advance and can be bought on line at
www.nationalrail.co.uk or by phone.

This information is given in good faith but please check times and prices yourself.

Go west young man! Scunthorpe station is over two miles away from the ground, turn left out of the station and head towards the crossroads (facing a church) and turn right into Oswald Road, going past a set of traffic lights and the Honest Lawyer and Blue Bell pubs. At the next traffic lights turn left into Doncaster Road (where there a number of fast food outlets). Then just go straight down this road and you will eventually reach Glanford Park on your left. Otherwise catch the number 7 or 8 Yellow Line bus from the bottom of Doncaster Road (outside the Atlantis Chippy) down to the ground (fare £1).

Otherwise a taxi is probably the easiest way to reach the stadium.

ROAD

Fill in the details from your home postcode to Scunthorpe FC here for a full route plan www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp but for an edited version;

Approx. 188 miles, 3 hours 46 minutes.

The ground is on the outskirts of Scunthorpe, making it easy to find from the motorway. Leave the M180 at Junction 3 and take the M181 for Scunthorpe. At the end of this motorway, you will see the ground on your right.

Turn right at the first roundabout onto the A18 and right again into the large car park at the ground, which costs £2. There is limited street parking if you hunt around.

FOOD AND DRINK

There is a pub 100 yards from the ground, The Old Farmhouse, and KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Frankie and Bennies all on the same complex.

The pub welcomes away fans but states 'no colours'.

If you have more time there are plenty of options at the Pub Crawl in Scunthorpe: www.thelittlegazette.com/news/loadsngl.asp?cid=EDW8&id=410108

SHORT BREAKS

The travelodge near the ground is the obvious stay for a quick get away in the morning, though the cheapest rooms have now gone, (click on here to see what's left, www.travelodge.co.uk/saver_rooms/index.php ).

However TLG is going to start recommending the new Football Hotels site given below for a full list og places within a decent distance of the game.

If you require hotel accommodation in the area then first try a hotel booking service provided by Football Hotels who are powered by Activehotels, who specialise in locating accommodation near or within a short travelling distance of the football ground. They also have the added advantage over some other hotel booking services that you pay on departure. To access their Scunthorpe page click here.
