ROAD

Fill in the details from your home postcode to Yeovil Town FC here for a full route plan www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp but for an edited version;

Approx. 186 miles, 3 hours 30 minutes.

Leave the M25 at Junction 12 having been through the Dartford Tunnel, and join the M3. Leave M3 at Junction 8, then merge onto the A303. When you pass a Travelodge at Yeovil Podimore there's 7 miles to Huish Park which is signposted from the A303. Leave the A303 at the Cartgate roundabout and take the A3088 towards Yeovil.

Follow the road for around four miles until you reach a roundabout on the outskirts of Yeovil with the Westlands Airfield directly in front of you. Turn left at this roundabout and then continue straight on, crossing a number of roundabouts. As you pass the entrance to an Asda superstore, take the next left for the ground, which can be seen from the road, see the map below.

There is a fair sized car park at the ground, which costs £2. Otherwise there is plenty of street car parking to be had on the roads leading down to the ground.

Getting away from the ground can be a nightmare as there is only one road out of the official car park. It once took 35 minutes to travel the half mile to the Preston Road roundabout.

TRAIN

After getting the train back to London with seconds to spare drenched to the skin after that 2004/05 season defeat I've never been back! Not the easiest to get from station to ground so good luck.

If you missed DoDtS £20 offer there is now only two £10 single fares I could find at 17.20 on the way back to London Waterloo, in at 19.49, or wait for the 19.20, it might take you that long to find the station, in at 22.04, both on www.southwesttrains.co.uk, but if you can make it back to Yeovil Junction by twenty past five your a better man than me as the station is 2-3 miles out of town on the other side of town from the ground.

Yeovil in within the Group 4 saver zone if there is enough of you that could keep costs down. Call South West Trains on 0845 6000 650 and there could be tickets available at £18.70 return each.

It really is in the middle of nowhere so get a taxi to the stadium, alternatively you can catch the 'Hopper' minibus to the bus station in the town centre. On matchdays the old shuttle service has been scrapped so it's the regular No.1 (Abbey Manor) bus which leaves from the stop outside the Lloyds TSB Bank in the town centre every 15 minutes to travel to the Abbey Manor housing estate adjacent to the ground. Last bus back into town on a Saturday leaves from Abbey Manor at 18.52pm. For timetables see the First Traveller website.

The cheapest train out is now £14 on the 10.20, in at 12.33, and the not recommended 12.20, in at 14.33! The 11.20, in at 13.33, is now £14.

To return from Yeovil Junction best to wait until the 18.20, in at 21.04, and pay £18, or wait until the 19.20, in at 22.04, where there is still a £14. So anything from £24 to £32.

Finally, a mere mile from the town centre but still on the wrong side of the stadium, First Great Western run services from Paddington to Yeovil Pen Mill but are more expensive, £27.50 on the way out, yet I have found the 18.26 back, giving you good time to find it, in at 21.29, and only £15 but a longer journey. You can also book this on www.southwesttrains.co.uk.

DRINKING

The recommended Pub Crawl will be up shortly but there's no real outstanding pub near the ground, for the train travellers going into the town centre there's all the usual suspects including a Weatherspoons.

If one has to be picked within walking distance of the stadium The Bell on Preston Road is part of the 'Hungry Horse' chain, so you should get a pint of Abbott's, and is gaining popularity with the home support. In the map below turn right at the Preston Road roundabout to go into Western Avenue and Huish Park.

FOOD

As a Hungry Horse pub the Bell mentioned above will do cheap pub grub covering all ages but the ever reliable Yeovil independent fan site www.ciderspace.co.uk recommends the Palmers Fish & Chip Restaurant/Takeaway which can be found on the other side of Bunford Lane from the Brewsters pub, just off the Crematorium roundabout; and the Preston Road Takeaway is situated down from The Bell on the opposite side of Preston Road. Both places can be found on the map below.

SHORT BREAKS

If you fancy a long weekend in the area, and there is some beautiful countryside within driving distance of the town centre, click onto www.travelsupermarket.com for the best deals on hotels and b&b's to meet your budget.

For a bargain option it might be worth looking at the Travelodge website at www.travelodge.co.uk/saver_rooms/index.php, though the nearest to the ground, Yeovil Podimore, only has £69 rooms left. Ilminster, 15 odd miles from the ground has some £39 rooms available.
