For an alternative journey keep up to date with SoL Travel at: www.theshrimpers-online.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6&Itemid=8

Under 16's only allowed to travel if accompanied by an adult.

With the cheap train fares running out, certainly to get up there, and money's running tight, there is a £4 single fare from London Victoria to Manchester off at 8am and in at 13.00, so an early start, then plenty of trains from Manchester Piccadilly for a 7 minute journey to Stockport for £2.50 single/£2.60 return.

The coach and train station are close and clearly signposted.

A final tip, on a trip to Oldham last season the coach driver was requested to stop at Stockport on the Manchester service and did! It was that near. Pissed me off as we were running late anyway, got to Oldham just in time for kick-off! However, worth asking to save a train fare.

There is a £4 fare back from Manchester at 18.05 and you could make it if you leave right after the game but back in London at 22.50, so stick to the train for the moment!

TRAIN

If you didn't take advantage of the £8 single fares on offer back in October you wont get up there at that price now but still some reasonable times on the way back even now.

From London Euston the 10.40 and 11.40, in at 12.36/13.36, you can get at £15.

£8 on the way back on the 17.43 and 18.23, in at 19.42/20.28 or £15 again.

Or a mixed coach/train option see the coach section above.

Stockport railway station is in walking distance of the ground (around half a mile).
Come out of the station and turn left up Station Road, and continue up the hill towards the roundabout. Go straight over the roundabout and turn left into Caroline Street for the ground. (See map below, the station's the blue blob!).

(All fares correct as of Saturday December 20)

ROAD

Fill in the details from your home postcode to here for a full route plan www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp but for an edited version;

Approx. 232 miles, 4 hours.

M6 to junction 19. Take the A556 towards Manchester/Altrincham. Then join the M56 towards Manchester Airport. After a few miles leave the M56 and join the M60 towards Stockport. Leave the M60 at Junction 1 and head towards Stockport. Turn right at the second set of traffic lights to go onto the A560 towards Cheadle. Then turn left into Edgeley Road (there is a pub on the left hand corner at the lights at this junction). The ground is down this road on the right.

The ground is well sign posted around the area but it's an open end so wrap up warm! Street Parking.

FOOD AND DRINK

For the best choices for a decent pint and some good grub, and this is one of the better trips, go to the Pub Crawl in Stockport here: www.thelittlegazette.com/news/loadsngl.asp?cid=EDW8&id=422886

SHORT BREAKS

If you require hotel accommodation in the area then first try a hotel booking service provided by Football Hotels who are powered by Activehotels, who specialise in locating accommodation near or within a short travelling distance of the football ground. They also have the added advantage over some other hotel booking services that you pay on departure.
