Day Return to Millwall

Last updated : 16 August 2008 By Shrimpers24
If your not going to Lord's to see Essex take on Kent here's all the details you need to make the easy trip to Millwall.

Tickets are on sale at the Roots Hall ticket office while they will be on sale on the day and the prices are: Adults £20.00, Seniors £13.00, Under 16's £11.00 and Under 18's £8.00

1,000 have been allocated and when I bought mine on Saturday at midday I was told they'd sold 200! I hope the positive result will get it closer to last season's 1,029 for the then evening kick off. I also hope the stewards do a better job getting people to their seats this time around.

Train

Other than on one of the coach trips above, the train is probably the best option,
as South Bermondsey Railway Station is only a few minutes walk from the ground. There is a direct walkway specifically built for away fans which takes you directly to the away end and back to the station afterwards. This has made the police's job of keeping rival supporters apart so much more manageable. If, as expected, the Blues bring a sizeable following, then an 'away fan' football special may be laid on from London Bridge. In these instances the police are well drilled in getting away fans into the ground from the special train and safely away afterwards. Although don't be surprised if you are held in the stadium for sometime after the final whistle, before being allowed back up the walkway to the station.

The fare from Southend stations to South Bermondsey is £12.50 cheap day return or £8.25 with a railcard. From London Bridge it's a £3.20 day return or £2.10 with a railcard.

If there's a group of 3 or 4 of you going, then be aware of the GroupSave 3 or 4. Whether you travel as a group of adults, or in any combination of adults and children, your party of 3 or 4 people will only pay the equivalent of just 2 adult Off-Peak Day Travelcards, so meet up before hand and ask at your boarding station ticket office. Railcards will also still apply.

If you want to take the kids, up to 4 more 5-15 year olds can travel for £1 each, single or return!

Times are very regular from Southend, your talking just over 90 minutes if your not tempted to to have a pint around London Bridge. If you decide that's what you want, then walking from Fenchurch Street is easy if it's not pissing down, straight to the Bank, turn left past the Monument and over the Bridge. From Liverpool Street, it's a relative straight line south from all exits but go towards Moorgate Station, you'll see the signs for London Bridge.

To go straight to the ground, change at West Ham on the Fenchurch Street line joining the Hammersmith and City line until Moorgate and catch the Northern line towards Morden. On the Liverpool Street line one stop to Moorgate and change to the Northern Line.

WARNING: Do not change at Stratford for the Jubilee Line to London Bridge. On Saturday 16 the line is suspended between Green Park and Canary Wharf due to planned engineering works.

It's not the place it was but, if your not on a coach, I'd still just go straight to the ground after a beer in the Market Porter and straight back to the station once the final whistle blows. If you leave straight after the final whistle you should be home by 8pm.  Whatever you decide, have a great day.
