Shrimpers seconds shake off Stevenage

Southend United reserves saw off Stevenage at Roots Hall Tuesday afternoon in their final Totesport Football Combination East Division fixture of the 2010/11 season, and two goals in the opening 33 minutes from Kyle Asante and Adam Bouzid did the damage.

The Shrimper seconds player/coach Graham Coughlan will be able to turn out a strong side which could see the last appearance of Johnny Herd, probably on the left side of midfield from where he scored his goal against Watford reserves last week, in a Southend shirt.

In fact, we should know soon enough just how many of the side that stepped out on the hallowed turf in front of around sixty supporters, a few maybe Conference or League Two scouts, have been told their future lies away from south-east Essex, though the smart money remains on Rhys Evans, Miguel Comminges, Adam Bouzid, Louie Soares, and poor Johnny, that were involved in this match.

However, full-back Peter Gilbert has recovered from a hernia operation to take to the field, the first time he has been seen for United since limping off in the first half of the 2-1 defeat at Lincoln City on March 12th. He actually started in the centre of defence with Teddy Nesbitt starting in the left-back position.

Southend United: Evans, Comminges, Furlonge, Gilbert, Nesbitt, Woodyard, Bouzid, Herd, Soares, Smith, Asante.
