Shrimpers on trail unlikely to sign after closed door friendly

In a closed-door friendly the Southend 'trialist eleven' were beaten by their ColU neighbours 2-1.

John-Joe O'Toole and Craig Arnott got the goals for the Farmers, (still waiting to hear our scorer), played at the Weston Homes Community Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

We certainly appreciated the game time with the lack of second-string fixtures in the five team Combination East!

Former Southend centre-back Pat Baldwin played the whole game as he continued his comeback from a toe injury.

However, what about Ipswich left-back Shane O'Connor, plenty of media speculation we fancied the cut of his gib.

Well, it looks as if it's not to be, along with most of the Shrimpers side that turned out care in the community ground, if Echoman Chris Phillips is to be believed.

Phillips tweeted: '7 or 8 trialists played in a friendly against Colchester today. O'Connor was one of them. But no need to get excited about it. Won't sign.'

Oh well!
