Macca gets brace as Blue Twos keep 100% record

Our resident rotweiller Alan McCormack played a full 90 minutes for the first time this season and scored twice for good measure!  Expect another chance to stand and applaud at Yeovil this weekend around 70 minutes. (Unless you've bought standing tickets and you will be anyway!)

It was mostly Blues in the first half with only the odd chance created for the away side, one being well dealt by Ian Joyce in the Southend goal. Francis Laurent was particularly busy, going close early on, getting the ball in the net but seeing it ruled offside, and finally scoring for real a minute before half time. Damien Scannell had linked up well with Laurent for the earlier efforts and it was Scannell again who placed the Frenchman away with the perfect through ball for the perfect finish.

The second half then produced four further goals and Maccas double! On 51 minutes Alan was in the right place to head home a Johnny Herd corner, just a minute later a traditional Macca break into the box to meet a cross from Ademeno and smash the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net from six yards.

Scannell himself had a chance to really rub it in but it was Borough who came back strongly. Anthony Thomas scoring after a fine run through the Blues defence on 66 minutes, then pulling the Southend lead to just one when Callum Willock rounded Joycey three minutes later.

Willock then tried an audacious lob over the Blues keeper but that effort was cleared, leaving Leslie Thompson to also try his luck from the half-way line, Joycey just saving that one.

At last Southend closed out the game to see Dean Austin very pleased at the progress his side is making, this one being full of youngsters, and that man Macca!
