Coughlan: Game lacked urgency

Coughlan: 'It was a great window of opportunity for the players to impress the Southend manager'

Shrimpers reserve team coach Graham Coughlan saw his team knocked out of on penalties after a stalemate at home against Ryman League One North side Grays Athletic in the Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round Tuesday evening.

He believes though that the performance was worse than the result, and the odd player may look back on the night and see it as the beginning of the end of their time at Roots Hall!

Coughlan told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I’m still very disappointed with the game, how it panned out and the final result. It was a great window of opportunity for the players to impress the Southend manager and any others who may have been watching. The defeat also means these players will have just three games left to play this season and that may be the only opportunities they have to try and extend their stay at the football club.”

Poor old JJ, might not get the three games!

Even so, that ridiculous five team Combination league has come back to bite us, they will have to set up some sort of cup competition to keep it going until May!
