Blues Twos Pummel Posh

At half time, with the game a sedate 1-1, nobody at Roots Hall this afternoon could have predicted that there were still six more goals to come in the second period let alone five in the final 15 minutes!

All eyes were on Ian Joyce and how he performed with the trip to Crewe in mind but he will be more than pleased that the action was focused up the other end with Alex Revell grabbing a brace while the other scorers were The Moose, The Frenchman, The Scannell and the boy Forshaw, who had come on a second half substitute.

It took only five minutes for Shaun Batt to give Posh the lead, running through a wide open Blues defense and he gave Joyce no chance with a fine shot into the bottom corner.

Revell equalised on 20 minutes when a pass from Ademeno was smashed in via the upper woodwork.

Blues continued to go forward with Laurent looking lively but the teams went in all square before it all took off.

Once again, after only five minutes of play, Posh to grabbed the lead.  Charlie Lee, who made 49 appearances in the 'Borough first team last season, but was dropped for 19 year-old rookie Paul Coutts on Saturday, showed his management team that he wasn't finished yet. Lee held off several challenges before unleashing a shot that flashed past Joyce.

Scannell just missed a good chance to equalise when the Moose finally did in the 76th minute, finding the net from 20 yards out.

The Frenchman Laurent decided to join the fun after 80 minutes, giving Blues the lead for the first time in the match with a curling effort from outside the box after Revell had won the ball in the air.

That left Scannell, Revell again and sub Forshaw to make it a surreal scoreline for the Stiffs in the last ten. Damien with a one man show, then a terrific shot into the corner of the net. Alex latched on to a poor back pass and rounded a shell shocked Posh keeper for 5-1. Finally, Forshaw made it six of the best when he finished off a magnificent Moussa pass.

Well, I know we'd signed up plenty of forwards but it's nice to see them do the business, even in the second team. As for Joyce, why not? Let's give him a go.

SOUTHEND RESERVES: Joyce, Whittaker, Sankofa, Jones (Owinja 31), Herd, O' Keefe, Moussa, Ademeno (Forshaw 72), Laurent, Revell.
