Another fine win over Orient, even if it is the reserves!

There was only six minutes on the clock when Sailsbury loanee Liam Feeney left the Orient defence standing and sent in a low cross that Rhys Henry shot straight into the O's keeper Jamie Jones from 16 yards.

Paul Terry, a name that still makes many Shrimpers see red after last season's game at their place, which was more than he did, was in the Orient team and he had a couple of chances to give the away side the lead. First, a header that just went wide. Then, second, Ian Joyce in the Blues goal completely mis-hit a pass out of defence which allowed Terry to let fly from 12 yards where he hit the crossbar!

The away side were well on top missing a couple more good chances before, on 31 minutes, Ryan Jarvis scored after good work on tthe left wing by Piros.

Dean who? Brushy obviously did his stuff at half-time as only five minutes after the break a stunning shot from 25 yards from young Henry nearly broke the net and saw Blues level.

The O's regrouped and Joycey had to be at his best to save a trio of long range efforts from Palmer, Jarvis and Dawkins.

In between all of this Peggy Lokando struck a 20 yard effort just wide but it was still Orient who came closest when Jarvis smashed the crossbar from a narrow angle and Dawkins once again brought the best out of Joyce.

It had to end in tears for the boys from East London and it duly did when Henry crossed for sub Craig Calver to keep his head and convert from close range in the final seconds.

Roll on the next league encounter, whenever that will be, as we've got another date now on the posher side of town.

Southend United: Joyce, Whittaker, Jones, Reynolds, Hazell (Calver 78), Lokando, O'Keefe, Feeney, Walker, Henry.

Unused subs; Osifuwa, McDonald, Abbey.
