Blues Ladies FC - The History Part 1 2004-2008.

Last updated : 15 August 2008 By Steph
Southend United Ladies FC First Team reformed on the tail end of season 2004/2005 after collapsing. Before 2004, the team was managed by Lisa Hart.

For their first pre season friendly, the first team welcomed a Swedish outfit to Boots and Laces where they went on to lose 5 - 0. Never the less, they earned great experience.

After the first team had reformed and enjoyed a successful first season, Southend United decided to set up a youth team in 2005. Following 2 weeks of gruelling trials watched over by coaches Neville Hickton, Frankie Banks and Kirk Edwards, a very talented Under 15's team was formed.

For season 2006/2007 the youth team competed in the Home Counties Girls Football League Division 1 against other professional clubs such as Watford and Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile, the first team competed in the Essex County Womens Football League Alliance Division 3.

Both teams enjoyed much success and the first team were promoted to Division 2 in 2007.

After such a great start, in 2007 the under 16's were asked to represent England at an all girls international tournament held in Holland. The girls managed to out class all other teams from around the world to bring the winners trophy back to England.

Whilst the youth team were winning cups, the first team had defeated a hand full of good sides to go far in county and league cups only to be knocked out in the quarter finals.

For season 2008/2009 the first team shall yet again be competing in the Essex County Womens Football League Alliance Division 2 and the now under 16's shall be competing in the Home Counties Girls Football League Division 1.

The first team shall be managed by Sarah Bundy and coached by professional coaches from Southend United and the Under 16's shall be coached by Head Coach Kirk Edwards.

As the link between Southend United and Southend United Ladies forever grows stronger, season 2008/2009 is sure to bring great success to the club!

(Great stuff Steph and every Blues supporter wishes all the ladies teams representing Southend the best of luck during the upcoming campaign. If anybody reading would like to write in about the years before 2004 please click on E-mail the Editor in the left hand column under the FootyMAD section.)
