Southend 0-1 Swindon- Match Report

Robert strike sinks ShrimpersFabien Robert's second-half strike secured Swindon a hard-fought 1-0 win at Southend. The Robins came closest to scoring in the first half with Nathan Byrne having a 20-yard shot parried to safety by Shrimpers goalkeeper Dan Bentley. But after the break, the hosts wasted two golden chances to take the lead. With 52 minutes on the clock, an unmarked Jack Payne fired wide of the left-hand post from 12 yards after Noel Hunt had headed David Worrall's left-wing cross into his path.Moments later, Hunt was unable to convert a cross from Ben Coker as his four-yard shot looped up into the air for Swindon goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux to easily gather. And the visitors immediately made the most of the let-off by scoring what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute, with Robert on target for the third game in succession. The midfielder raced in behind Coker to collect Byrne's through ball and fired past Bentley with an accurate left-footed finish.Only two fine late saves from Vigouroux stopped Southend from grabbing an equaliser as he tipped over Myles Weston's close-range header before also blocking a powerful effort from Joe Pigott
