Southend 0-1 Bradford- Match Report

Bradford seal play-off place with win at Southend

Bradford secured their place in the Sky Bet League One play-offs with a 1-0 win at Southend.

Lee Evans bagged the only goal of the game after just 12 minutes to secure all three points for the Bantams to guarantee Phil Parkinson's side a top-six finish.

Evans' early effort came when he a curled an accurate 20-yard shot into the bottom corner of the net.

In reply, Southend's Ryan Leonard saw a long-range effort tipped over by Bradford goalkeeper Ben Williams before Tyrone Barnett headed a long throw from Leonard straight at the visiting stopper.

Evans then had another effort gathered by Shrimpers goalkeeper Ted Smith at the second attempt.

After the break, Southend almost equalised when Barnett sent a volley crashing against the crossbar before Noel Hunt was denied from close range by Williams.

Leonard then sent a well-struck 25-yard shot fizzing just wide of the left post but the Shrimpers were unable to avoid a fourth defeat in succession.

Bradford almost doubled their lead at the death when Paul Anderson's effort brushed the top of the crossbar.
