AND ANOTHER THING…
**This was Southend United’s first home defeat in seven outings since the 2-1 reverse to Wycombe Wanderers, and the first in five games either home or away from Roots Hall.
**It was the first time since the 4-0 drubbing at Darlington’s Williamson Motors Stadium that Blues had failed to score. At home, the only other two clashes that resulted in the Shrimpers going goalless were the 0-0 draw with Cambridge United and the 2-0 defeat to Cheltenham Town.
**It was the first time in 98 years that United have lost an FA Cup tie to Luton Town – although the two sides have only met twice since then. Southend’s only two Cup wins over Town came in the FA Cup three years ago in a 3-2 win, and last season’s LDV Vans Trophy triumph by three goals to nil.
**The last time the Seasiders failed to get past the first round of the FA Cup was in 1999/2000, when Torquay United inflicted a 1-0 defeat on them at Plainmoor.
