Referee: Clive Oliver (Northumberland FA) 9 out of 10 – strangely statistics show that we had a lot more free-kicks than the home side, but I think they are just some silly niggling fouls from Darlington. A very welcome official following the fool of Wednesday, Mr. Oliver controlled everything admirably and barely put a foot wrong. |

AND ANOTHER THING…
**This was Southend’s heaviest away defeat since November 2003, when Yeovil Town inflicted a 4-0 defeat on the Shrimpers
**Alun Armstrong is the first player to score a hat-trick against the Seasiders since Iyseden Christie did so in Mansfield Town’s 3-0 win at Roots Hall in August 2003 – however, it is not since November 1998 that Blues have had a hat-trick inflicted upon them on their travels – Brentford’s Lloyd Owusu completing the feat at Griffin Park on that occasion in a 4-1 defeat
**It was United’s first away loss in over a month, the last being on 27th August 2004 at Bristol Rovers by two goals to one
