AND ANOTHER THING…

Adam Barrett's first Southend goal takes on greater importance
**Southend United find themselves bottom of the four divisions of the English League for the first time in their history. The Shrimpers did have to fight for re-election in the Division Three (South) days, but 23rd in 1967 (when Workington were below them) and 2003/4 (Carlisle United) was the previous worst placing.

**It is now eleven matches since that 3-2 win over Darlington, and seven without a victory on the road

**Adam Barrett’s goal, aside from being his first for Blues, was the club’s first from open play in 2004/5, and bridged a gap of 594 minutes between Lawrie Dudfield’s strike against Torquay United on the last day of 2003/4 and his header against his former club. That would be over 600 minutes – ten hours – if stoppage time were to be included.

**Barrett now surges to the best goals per game ratio of all the players on the current staff at Roots Hall. His strike rate of 0.33 goals per game ousts Lawrie Dudfield (0.32) from the top spot, and is better than Dudfield’s fellow front men Tesfaye Bramble (0.25), Wayne Gray (0.17) and Drewe Broughton (0.15). It was Barrett’s tenth League goal – he has eleven in all.

**Duncan Jupp was making his 250th competitive appearance – before his 53+1 matches for United he racked up 137 games for Fulham, 45 for Wimbledon, nine for Notts County and five for Luton Town.

**Carl Pettefer was making his 50th first-team appearance – his 20th including two substitute appearances for Blues.

**Drewe Broughton was playing his 50th match for Southend. 12 of those have been as a substitute, and in that time he has managed a meagre eight goals.

**Lawrie Dudfield’s 63rd minute booking was his first for the Shrimpers.

**Lewis Hunt was playing in his 50th first-team match; his 10th as a sub, with 8+5 of those games with Derby County.
