AND ANOTHER THING…
**The Shrimpers recorded a sixth consecutive home win, although this is still not enough to dislodge the 1990 run of seven as the last time Blues went as long unbeaten at Roots Hall.
**Southend’s League Two position of fifth is the highest since the previously-mentioned October 12th meeting with York City earned United the same slot in 2002.
**It is the first time since October 2001 that Southend have recorded four goals in consecutive games – that time Swansea City (4-2; Roots Hall; Division Three) and Stevenage Borough (4-1; Broadhall Way; LDV first round) were the unlucky opposition. The last time Blues scored four in successive home matches was in December 1993, when they defeated Padova 5-2 in the Anglo-Italian Cup and Charlton Athletic 4-2 in the old Division One.
**Including the five out of five record in the LDV Vans Trophy, the Shrimpers have now scored all nine of their penalties this season – Lawrie Dudfield has two, whilst Wayne Gray also has netted two of his five goals from the spot.
**Freddy Eastwood marked his debut as a permanent signing with his seventh goal of the campaign for Blues – and his thirteenth in all for both Southend and Grays Athletic. He had marked his Seasiders’ debut with a hat-trick against Swansea City, you may just remember.
**Adam Barrett scored his sixth of the season, and the first since late September, completing half-a-dozen goals with his head. Mark Gower, by contrast, netted his fourth in the last five League Two home matches.
