Till: 'It's an exciting time to be here'

Last month the former Lions chairman Stewart Till, he was at the New Den between 2006 and 2008, became the latest signing on to the Shrimpers Board of Directors.

He is still the Chair of the film company Icon, the vampire flick Let Me In was their's, and the company have just released indy movie 'Oranges and Sunshine', while previously he was Chief Executive of United International Pictures and Chair of the UK Film Council.

Add to that Chair of Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the UK's Creative Industries, and Chair of PPC, a creative marketing agency for the major film studios, and it shows he's been a very busy boy!

In 2002 Stewart even had time to pick up a CBE for services to the British film industry.

All in all, it looks a good signing by Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin, however, he first wanted to express his joy at just being back involved in the game.

Till told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I was chairman and vice-chairman there between 2006 and 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed my involvement in the game. It was something I had missed and I had been thinking how I would love to get back in to football, so this opportunity came at the perfect time for me and I'm excited about being with Southend United."

It seems he's a good mate with club CEO Tara Brady, having first met Brady's old man, Chris, at a business school in London where the two of them organised a post-graduate film business degree! Impressive.

So it's all down to Tara that Stuart finds himself in south-east Essex.

Till continued: "Tara told me about how they wanted to revitalise the board and I was interested straight away. I got on well with Ron Martin when we met and it was obvious that there should only be one way Southend will go from here and that's up."

We all hope so! So there's more to the future than a new pink away strip!

Till concluded: "It's a perfect situation because the plans for the new stadium are fantastic and I have been very impressed by how professional Paul Sturrock is too. There are some good young players in his squad and it's an exciting time to be here. The goal here is to get into the new stadium and sell it out by playing in the Championship. The potential is there, particularly because there aren't any other teams in this part of the country."
