WARNING! This is an artists impression, not a real photo, and it's got four sides!

A promising announcement by Southend Council have revived confidence that Fosstetts Farm could be a reality after all!

A packed council meeting agreed to serve CPO's on properties on Victoria Avenue as part of Sainbury's intention to build a new superstore at Roots Hall.

Something that has to happen before a brick can be laid at Fossetts Farm and Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin keeping in complete control of the club.

Martin told www.southendunited.co.uk: "Compulsory Purchase Orders are never a pleasant experience for anyone but fair value for all can be acheived through a Land Tribunal and we can move forward towards the new stadium."

This is not surprising news, though welcome, as the council has put a lot of public investment already behind the project and now private companies can follow suit with confidence.

The supermarket at Roots Hall will never going to be built until work on the stadium was well underway and was hoped to open at the start of the 2011/12 season with a Kevin Maher testimonial.

Ex-Captain Kev may have to wait a year or two!

Whether the latest rumours of a three-sided 15,000 capacity Fossetts Farm due to the present financial climate, instead of the picture above for over 20,000, has any truth in it, we will have to wait and see.

For now, Uncle Ron's prayers are being answered, but just how much is he in control of future events?
