So it's bad news/good news, Ron's good isn't he! (Don't answer that!)

The re-submitted plans for the Shrimpers new stadium at Fossetts Farm, along with Sainsbury's proposals to build a store at the club's current Roots Hall home, were both approved by Southend Borough Council on Tuesday.

Councillors also gave the Club permission to knock down St. Mary's Court flats in Victoria Avenue.

The replacement of the flats nearby will be the first building work of the Roots Hall development.

But Southend United chairman Ron Martin has confirmed that it will still take some time for the development to go through; no surprise there then!

Martin told BBC Essex: "It could be 18 months before we are ready to go, it won't take more than 16 months to build phase one when we do get on site."

While, of course, on the official site he was much more bullish.

Speaking to www.southendunited.co.uk Martin said: "I'm delighted. It's a big tick in the box and a great result. I'm looking to the future."

Who knows, ex-captain Kevin Maher may gets that testimonial at FF before he draws his old age pension!

That is the club hasn't gone under; it's never dull being a Shrimpers fan has never seemed such a crap thing to say.

Boring, especially for events off the pitch, is sometimes good!
