Barker: A happy man

Barker: 'This is back to reality for us'

Shrimpers skipper Chris Barker gave his usual full hearted display in the 3-0 hammering at Cheltenham Saturday afternoon, enough to pick up S24's MOM, with a 6!

He is more than aware that a third defeat in a row on Tuesday evening against the League One Latics in the FA Cup second round replay will have the more cynical amongst the Shrimpers faithful believing the losing run has become a slump with the Bradford City league game next Friday taking on maximum importance.

Barker told Blues World: 'It could've been more. They were men, we were boys and they hammered us. This is back to reality for us. but we have to show it was a one off and in football there's always a quick chance to bounce back.'

Can't argue with that, and as ever defender Mark Phillips had the last word, with a good word for the Essex boys and girls who entered into the spirit of the season by travelling in fancy dress, some really great outfits out there.

Phillips tweeted: 'Got to thank the fans who travelled, I am absolutly gutted with my performance as are the rest of team. Bring on Tuesday to put it right.'

Let's hope so, especially with Liverpool at Anfield as the prize for victory, it's gonna be one of Luggy's toughest tests to turn this around so soon.
