Timlin: 'I don’t want to be sidetracked and I’m loving it here at Southend'
So, according to the Echo, the sharks are circling around loanee midfielder from League two rivals Swindon Town Michael Timlin, though they fail to mention a club, maybe the hits to the Echo site are dropping a touch.
However, according to the paper Friday morning, the wage problem has been sorted on the remainder of his 18-month contract at the County Ground, and it's all about a fee that will keep the talented Peckam born boy in south-east Essex once his present loan deal ends in January.
Many of the Robins faithful believe they should keep him just to piss us off, no doubting he's an important cog in the promotiom chasing wheel, two defeats in nineteen games, both against Swindon, both when he wasn't playing!
However, Di Canio has already made some silly comments about wanting some serious dosh, hopefully Shrimpers CEO Tara Brady and Robins interim chairman Jeremy Wary can sort out a mutually attractive settlement that takes the players feelings into account before someone does in fact get in the picture, I certainly got tweeted the other day that Gillingham were sniffing around, but I'm banking on a wind-up!
And as for the player himself?
Timlin told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I don’t know what’s been said between the two clubs and I’m just trying to concentrate on not letting it affect my form. I don’t want to be sidetracked and I’m loving it here at Southend."
Can't argue with that, especially as he was sitting in the stands after picking up a one match suspension for five yellow cards, a game he was not allowed to play in anyway, so he certainly wants to be in the starting eleven for League Two's first v third clash of the day in front of a packed Whaddon Road crowd.
Timlin said: “It wasn’t nice not being able to play but we have to concentrate on the league again now and get back on track with a good result. It’s a massive match because Cheltenham are up there with us but we’re confidence we’re capable of getting a result.”
A result that if it brings three points will see Southend breaking a club record, be nice to do that after missing out on the last one that was going, with six successive league away wins after beating Rotherham, Crewe, Barnet & Dahenham & Redbridge, have previously won five away league games in a row in 1931 and 1991.
Timmo agreed: “Records are there to be broken and that will be our aim this weekend at Cheltenham. We’ve been doing well away from home and it would be nice to keep it going because this is a really important game for both teams.”
It is indeed.
