UPDATE: Macca speaks as he get's a run out for the reserves

He could be sighted against the Borient on Friday, Sawyer and Macca at some stage, oh yes. (Apologies to the Frenchman, Supersub and the Moose, but it would be fun.)

First he has to get through a half against Charlton at their training ground on Tuesday with Dean Austin's side.

If all goes well a subs bench appearance at least against Leyton Orient could be on the cards.

Tilly hinted as much when he spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk Sunday: "Macca is getting closer and he will be looking to get a game next week. (Now this). It's great news because we've missed him and it will certainly give me more competition in there."

McCormack himself had this to say: "I can't wait to get out there again and it's a similar feeling to when you are a baby at Christmas, (not sure about that one Macca but we'll let it pass!), I'm going to be playing just a half because we don't want to run the risk of injuring another part of my body, which may not be ready for any more than that just yet. But if I get through this game with no problems then hopefully I can be in the squad for Friday night's match with Leyton Orient, but that's obviously down to the management."

Continuing on the official site Macca knows the importance of regaining full match fitness: "The next target now is for me to get match fit again. I have to get used to the tempo but it's going to take quite a lot a bit of time because I'm already eight to ten games behind the rest of the lads. I'll be working hard to get there as quickly as I can and will be playing a few matches in the reserves. But I think you are going to be looking at least another month or so before I will be able to play around 70 minutes in a match."

It has to be said the news the club gave after the surgery on his knee has been 100% accurate so far, so every Shrimper will hope Alan gets through whatever part he plays in South London and we see him ready to snap away at opposition legs as soon as possible.
