Sturrock: Happy with result

Sturrock: '(Martin) did very well, but there's an awful lot more to come from him'

Blues boss Paul Sturrock has been around a while, and likes his teams to be like him, honest and direct, get the ball clear and up to the strikers and wideboys as quickly as possible, and now he's with us permanently midfielder Michael Timlin will be starting to get the message.

A manager he has stated he admires and is one of the reasons he wanted to stay at the club Timmo will be aware that it's not best to cross him but listen and learn.

After getting caught in two minds on January 2nd and losing the ball on the edge of the area, leading to the Daggers equaliser on the day, Timlin then caused his boss to put his head in his hands again when he tried another one of his qucik, fast touches, which fell to a Valiant midfielder who had about their one shot on target all day. Luckily this was not costly as we won 3-0!

Howver, when they come off they open up defences and open up attacking opportunities, something Luggy of course doesn't want to stop, just a word in his ear mind!

Sturrock told BBC Essex: "Those one touch passes he keeps trying to give ends up with them (Post Vale)  and they nearly scored. He's been excellent, but there's just these moments he plays those one-touch and they cause us concern"

Warning taken I'm sure.

But to show he's just loveable old Luggs really, he passed on some good words about debutant Dave Martin, a solid game with glimses of skill that showed enough to the faithful he will turn into a good 'un.

Sturrock said: "I think David showed ring-rust, don't get me think there was any doubt about that. The pace of the game caught him nearly all day, he was needing the 90 minutes. He did very well, but there's an awful lot more to come from him."

All in all, along with Elliot Benyon's progress, you feel a goal from him is not far away, a good weekend for Sturrock and Southend.
