Timlin: Signed 18-month deal

Timlin: 'Frustrating not being able to play in the other two matches against Swindon'

Shrimpers midfielder Michael Timlin had to miss his club's two previous games against the Wiltshire Robins this season as he was still on loan from the County Ground.

However, now having made the move to south-east Essex permanent he can take on Paolo Di Canio’s rampant team who have lost only once in 21 matches before their FA Cup Fourth round tie away to Leicester this weekend.

Timlin told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Both teams need a result as they’re going for promotion and it’s a massive match so hopefully we can come out on top. It was frustrating not being able to play in the other two matches against Swindon and the team didn’t really show what we could do in those games either. Hopefully this time it will be different and I can play a part in us getting an important result.”

Though Timlin turned out 135 times during four years with Swindon, and signing a new two--year contract at the start of the present campaign, he still fell out with then new boss Di Canio, not the only one, becoming another Shrimper who has played for present Blues boss Paul Sturrock in the past.

Timlin said: “It’s all water under the bridge now and I don’t hold any grudges towards anyone at Swindon. I would say I was more disappointed than angry by how things ended there because at the start I was one of only a few players who 100 per cent committed to Di Canio and his ways. I would like to think I’ve gone on to show I’m a good player and what happened at Swindon wasn’t to do with football. But I enjoyed my time there and would really love Southend to win the league this season with Swindon also getting promotion.”

Many Shrimpers would take just that!
