Tilly: 'You can't leave their top scorer unmarked'

Blues boss Steve Tilson could only trot out the party line after yet another away game where his team played well but have nothing to show for it.

Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "It was a good performance and I think we should have had at least something out of the game. You could tell from the reaction of the Huddersfield fans and their manager in the first half that things were getting to them a bit. My only disappointment was their second goal. You can't leave their top scorer unmarked."

The Shrimpers manager accepts the lack of suitable cover for departing players is hurting the club.

Tilly continued: "If I'm being honest, we are still short of a bit of quality. We had to play Franno out of position which doesn't help and I would like to bring in other players, but with things as the are at the moment, that is difficult."

On our scoring debutant: "We had not seen too much of Scott before we signed him. He came to play in our reserves and scored two goals. He looked hungry so we thought it was worth taking a punt on him."

Clark: 'The lad took one touch and it's in the back of our net'

Terriers boss Lee Clark accepted his team was not at it's best with Southend unlucky not to leave West Yorkshire with at least a point.

Clark told www.htafc.com: "It was very hard work. I thought we were very average at best for about 35 minutes of the first half today and if we'd come in at half time not in front I wouldn't have had any complaints. We came in 1-0 up, but there were a few home truths told because the goal papered over the cracks."

However, he knows it's points that matter.

Clark continued: "But it's all about winning. I'm disappointed with the their goal, very disappointed. You become successful on the back of clean sheets but the defenders were admiring what was happening at the other end of the pitch and weren't reacting to what was going on and we got done with one straight pass that dissected our back four. The lad took one touch and it's in the back of our net."
