Tilly fears the worse as Mildenhall goes for x-ray

While rightfully praising a brave performance by keeper Steve Mildenhall Blues manager Steve Tilson fears the x-ray might show a broken ankle leaving him on the sidelines for a lengthy spell.

With Joyce unwell at the moment that would leave young Clark Masters as the only choice between the sticks for Southend as they travel to Crewe next Saturday. Emergency loan anyone?

Speaking to www.southendunited.co.uk Tilly said: "When Steve got injured I feared the worst. He will now be going for an x-ray and we hope to find the result as soon as possible. Hopefully he hasn't broken anything, but our physio fears he may have broken his ankle. It shows the commitment of Steve, and even if he didn't have too much to do, when he was pressed into action he did well."

Many Blues fans believe you should always have a keeper on the bench but Tilly felt with a fit squad he would take a chance with five outfield players for the first time this season, sods law!

Would Revell have been the new Bramble? Hopefully we will never find out!

Tilly also expressed relief at three points for the first time in over a month though rightfully commenting that we were the better side.

"We thoroughly deserved to win, especially with our first half performance. We looked bright and were passing the ball around well. With better finishing we could have had four or five goals. Overall, it was a dogged peformance from us in the end to get the three points, even though Hereford didn't have too many chances. We had to dig in, but collectively I think it showed how tight we are."

He finished on these words: "I still think we can improve and that's what we will be looking to do, because we should have had more points on the board this season."

Too true, but another three at Crewe next week will do just fine.
