Teddy Nesbitt: Another from the under-18's to get picked for the first team
One of the surprises in our recent poll for the positions that Blues boss Paul Sturrock should be looking at was that left back grabbed third position behind central striker and right wing.
Surprising because as well as Luke Prosser signing a one-year deal, well maybe not so surprising in that case, to cover first choice Peter Gilbert in that position, there was also teenager Teddy Nesbitt who appeared twice as a first teamer last season which impressed Luggy enough, his debut away at Stockport was certainly promising, to offer Teddy a new one year pro deal.
Obviously he hopes this will lead to more appearances with the big boys during the next campaign.
Nesbitt told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I want to play as many games as I can next season. It was very exciting to come from the youth team to the first team but there was a big difference. The first team was much faster and that’s something I need to get used to.”
Nesbitt has now spent four years with the club, having first been spotted while playing Sunday League football for Pro Star in East London.
Chelsea was the first side the 17-year-old played for before having trails with Liverpool, Arsenal and Charlton Athletic, but he's now decided to stay a Shrimper.
Nesbitt continued: “It was brilliant to get a professional deal and I’m so pleased to have signed it. Hopefully I can do well in training and then in the reserves as well next season to try and stay involved with the first team. That’s definitely my aim but I realise I do have areas of my game to improve and work on.”
Best of luck for next season Ted, who certainly should see some time in Graham Coughlan's reserves during 2011/12.
