Swindon Town's Michael Timlin linked to Shrimpers return

Timlin: Southend loan move
Michael Timlin; a Luggy fave

So who were the two players Blues boss Paul Sturrock wanted the club to talk to before they left for their hols?

Well, speculation since the season ended has been focused on players that Luggy has worked with before, let's face it we have history on that front, and with a number of ex-Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday players in the squad, sometimes turning out for both, and another team we have the odd ex-member off are the recently relegated Swindon Town.

And midfielder Michael Timlin, whose contract with the Robins ends in the summer, must be on Luggy's wish list having already been at Roots Hall last season, scoring a cracking free-kick at Hereford, covering for another former Swindon player Capaian Craig Easton, who was out injured at the time.

Message boards have been abuzz and now Echo journalist Chris Phillips has tweeted: 'Just taken a call from Swindon Advertiser linking Michael Timlin with a return to Roots Hall', so there does seem to be legs in this one.

However, he has followed this up with: 'Source close to the club says Timlin is one of about 50 players being considered by club.'

So you pays you're money..........

If there is a future in this it will be interesting whether Michael add to an already strong midfield, or if he would replace Captain Craig, there are rumours he's been offered a pay cut in his new deal that remains unsigned, or a departing Anthony Grant or Kane Ferdinand, we will have to see.

It should be noted that Timlin has been offered a new one year contract to stay in Wiltshire, and has made 119 league appearances for Swindon, scoring 6 times, but we're both in the same division now.

He certainly has respect for Sturrock, telling www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk: "Paul Sturrock took over from Dennis Wise and I was his first signing, coming in on loan and staying until the end of the season as we won promotion to League One. He (Sturrock) has proven that he knows how to get teams out of leagues. He has done it with Sheffield Wednesday, he has done it with Plymouth and Swindon and is now trying to do it with Southend, so you have to give him credit."

Luggy told www.southendunited.co.uk last November: "We'd have liked to have kept Michael until the end of his loan but he's a Swindon player and they need him. Craig Easton should be in our thinking for the weekend after his injury so that softens the blow somewhat."

Is another midfielder what we need, what about where you believe the Shrimpers squad should be strengthened? Let's have you're thoughts here:

(Not an exact science, i.e. put attacking central midfielder or striker who lays off Big Baz, but it will give an idea of the thoughts where the team are believed to be weakest.)
