Sturrock: Will buy new players

Sturrock: 'We have several players who I think would benefit from the freshness of moving on'

The Shrimpers head into the festive period not in the best of form after six games without a win, including four successive defeats.

However, we remain second in League Two, just, and Blues boss Paul Sturrock is well aware he must shake the squad up if his side are going to continue to compete for automatic promotion, as long as CEO Tara Brady, who he is speaking to this week, allows him the dosh to spend.

Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "We've got three games until the window opens, we will be bringing players in during the window, there's no ifs, buts or maybes. We've got to try and compete with the other teams because they'll all be bringing in three or four, so it's important we manage to get the targets we'd like to bring in."

Then again, some may have to leave, and Luggy is looking at those players who have not seen regular action.

He continued: "Certain players who you would say are on the periphery of the team basically need to find homes now, the only way you can be a footballer is by playing games on a Saturday, if you're not playing on a Saturday then it defeats the purpose. At the end of the day, we have several players who I think would benefit from the freshness of moving on."

Could be bad news for striker Harry Crawford and a few of the younger members of the squad al la Teddy Nesbitt and Alex Woodyard.

Who else could be for the chop, if we can find a club to take them on?
