Sturrock warning: 'Things don't start to get moving for a couple of weeks yet'

Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss
Sturrock: 'Obviously we are still working on bringing in new players'

We have been here before, see summer 2008 and 2009, though nobody could say that 2010 was boring, and Blues boss Paul Sturrock was a guilty as anyone teasing us of new players during the January transfer window while he must have known there was an embargo on the club that stopped them signing anyone!

However, with a nucleas of a decent squad that many of the faithful believe will challenge for honours next season, if only some new blood can be bought in.

The trouble is of course is that we're broke, bugger all in the coffers, and wage deals will have to be realtively low, realtive to some other clubs that is, Crawley Town for instance, Luke Prosser being kept on shows how Luggy is going to have to fight for scraps.

The non-league is one way to go, though many Conference clubs have bigger budgets than the Shrimpers, there are some gems lower down, Ryan hall is a good example of that.

So good luck Luggs, reading the transfer rumours is good sport if taken as nothing more than that, veteran striker Scott Mcgleis, recently released by Orient is the latest and we wouldn't say No of course, but like many mentioned in dispatches can more than likely get a better one-year deal elsewhere, especially if players are prepared to move around the UK.

For now, we will have to wait; holidays, not all clubs have announced their retained lists ,or players still thinking about new deals on the table, whatever, there will be nobody new knocking on the doors of Roots Hall just yet, and be content with the present members of the squad that are happy to stay Shrimpers for another campaign, as Luggy has confirmed on the day keeper Gleen Morris put pen to paper.

Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "The squad is really starting to take shape now. Obviously we are still working on bringing new players in also but that's early days as far as that is concerned as things don't start getting moving for a couple of weeks yet."

In other words, we have to all 'calm down dears', little chance!

Anyway, he's already given us his word you doubters!:
