Sturrock: 'Our heads went down and we let ourselves down'
Blues boss Paul Sturrock was as honest in defeat as he has been in our opening two league victories, when in all honesty, the Shrimpers lost the plot in a crazy 14 minute spell after the break.
Sturrock told
www.echo-news.co.uk:
“In the first half I thought we did OK and had two or three chances ourselves but in the second half we looked a different team. We let them bully us and, although their first goal was quite fortunate, I was disappointed by our reaction to it. Our heads went down and we let ourselves down. The second half was a horror show in all honesty and I told my players to go away and look at themselves in the mirror, which is what I will be doing too.”
In our preview, though EEB says this every week the veteran defender is down to be picked, we did believe that playing Graham Coughlan three times in a week was pushing it, we can play Peter Gilbert Luggy, with Luke Prosser in the middle, and sure enough when he came off knackered on 65 minutes it was the signal for our fasting Frenchman to go feral!
Sturrock explained: “Cougho had run his race and was tiring back there and I had to bring Bilel on. It backfired on us unfortunately but now we have to go away, lick our wounds and make sure we come back stronger.”
Our warrior indeed with Sturrock admitting that Mohsni had been fined and was seeking help after the Orient bust-up with half his team mates!
Back to the drawing board Luggs, tough for the boy to turn out when he hasn't eaten all day!
Crawley No.2 Paul Raynor opposite Barry Fry's better looking brother
Not surprisingly, after a 3-0 win, Red Devils assistant boss Paul Ryner was a happy boy who at least had the decency to admit their opening goal just might have had a touch of luck about it.
Stanley boss John Coleman though would probably believe that's karma for Ryan Hall's winner on Saturday!
Rayner told www.thisissussex.co.uk: "I thought we were superb in the second half tonight. Early on we were a bit quick to hit it long but after the break we settled it down and we played some fantastic football. We might have been fortunate with the first goal, Dean Howell says he meant it but I think he is the only person who believes it. That said we could have had several more goals after that and we really deserved the three points against a good Southend side tonight."
This bloke has had a serious career, even beats Drew Broughton's!: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Raynor
