Graham Coughlan as the Shrews fans remember him

The veteran defender Graham Coughlan turned out 35 times at centre-back last season as well as helping out Blues boss Paul Sturrock as assistant manager following Tommy Widdrington's departure last December.

Oh, and he coaches the reserves as well!

So not surprising that the club want him to stay, S24 predicted both a new deal and a promotion last month, and as his present contract is coming to an end a new deal should be announced soon.

A club 'source' told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Both Paul Sturrock and the board are keen to retain Graham in both a first team coach and player role. It is believed a deal is being negotiated at the moment."

Coughlan was one of the Sturrock summer '17' who came to Roots Hall last summer having been released by League Two rivals Shrewsbury Town, another Shrimper who has worked with Luggy in the past, in this case at both Plymouth Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday.
