Sturrock: Happy after win
Sturrock: 'But I'm pleased that we've got the clean sheet'

Blues boss Paul Sturrock was obviously the happier of the two managers after his side's 1-0 win over Hereford United Saturday afternoon at Roots Hall, and felt the Shrimpers should have ahd the game sewn up well before the end.

Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk:: "First half we were very pleasing, I think we were very positive in our approach and didn't have that many scares. We got sloppy second half in spells, we got a wee bit deep and it allowed them to dictate. When you don't take the chances that we had in the game it's always going to happen, there's going to be nervous tension in the last 10-15 minutes. There certainly was. But I'm pleased that we've got the clean sheet and obviously the result as well."

Later, he priased Ryan Hall telling www.echo-news.co.uk: “It was a superb cross for the goal and it was a very competent performance from Ryan. He also tracked back well and stopped them getting crosses in to the box which is important. Jemal (Johnson) needs to learn from that and a few of his crosses went off the pitch so that's also something he needs to work on.”

Pitman: Annoyed at defeat

Pitman: 'We were probably the better side in the second half'

Meanwhile, Bulls boss Jamie Pitman felt his side never got out of the blocks in the first 45 but improved significantly after the break

Pitman told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "First half we were poor, we never really got near anyone, whether that was first-day nerves or whatever you can put it down to, there's no excuses for that. But second half, when we got near people and closer, worked them, then we competed more so than not. We just needed a little bit better cutting edge at the end to maybe create a chance or two. But they defended well to be fair, they came under a bit of pressure and got some great blocks in and we had to do the same on one or two occasions in the second half. We were probably the better side in the second half, they were in the first half."
