Southend United manager Paul Sturrock confimed to a Fans Forum last night that he was currently in talks with a defender that he hopes will be concluded soon.

At a Fans Forum on Tuesday evening at Roots Hall and set up by fansite Shrimperzone Blues boss Paul Sturrock was given several questions to answer by the faithful and was as honest, to a point, as ever.
CEO Tara Brady was also scheduled to appear but after being delayed did not take to the stage.
The main piece of info was that Luggy is in talks with a centre-half, the position many have felt needed cover for a while now, however if it's our Aberdeen connection we've been talking about for months we have no idea, yet it gives us a chance to run the link again!
He also made it clear that it was as support to the Barker-Phillips partnership, but if Mark Phillips does indeed have a long-term injury and is down to miss the mega clash with Swindon Town Tuesday evening at Roots Hall, it would be a welcome bit of business indeed.
Even though Sturrock accepts Bilel Mohsni is in his natural position at the back he is unwilling to break his first choice partnership up and would obviously want someone else in first.
It seems we are very close too our wage ceiling but could still possibily bring in TWO more players, not just the defender!
Other squad members brought into the mix were Lee Sawyer, who he sees as a possible wide player in the mould of Ryan Hall, but is not good at picking up Luggy's instructions, poor Barry Corr, who is unlikely to be seen again this season, and Kane Ferdinand, dropped from the starting line-up due to being 'bullied' by the opposition and confused whether he's a holding or attacking midfielder!
Moreover veteran striker Neil Harris, he of the three-year contract at 33, was also brought up in dispatches as 'not performing at the levels he needs to be', a position Bomber himself agrees with.
Where the crowd is concerned, and it seems 7,200 is the break-even point, he's unsurprisingly upset at fans who have a go at their own side at Roots Hall, but a more vocal support does make a 'huge difference' and it means players are less likely to hear any individual abuse.
It looks as if Luggy is concerned about the state of progress made by our younger players, the gap between them is in fact growing, and what may be a start of an exoodus, left-back teddy Nesbitt today joined Great Wakering Rovers for a month.
And to end on a happy note; a potential pre-season tour to Dublin is planned, that would be nice.
