Sturrock: 'There was a good spirit about the side'
Blues boss Paul Sturrock was happy enough with the stalemate that ended the Shrimpers brace of home pre-season friendlies, seeing as it was a Norwich City squad that, while we are at Accrington, will start a Premier League season on August 13th against, erm, Wigan.
Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I thought the shape of the team was good and we’ve again shown we can play both 4-3-3 and 4-4-2. There was a good spirit about the side and I really thought we dug in for each other to keep the clean sheet which was pleasing.”
There was certainly some raised eyebrows when Luke Prosser lined up at left-back with Peter Gilbert remaining on the bench for the whole game.
Sturrock explained: “Luke has played centre-back all his life and he still a few things to get to grips with at left-back. He’s done well there though and certainly gives me another option back there.”
Luggy also gave a strong hint that Liam Dickinson, with one of the reasons he was brought in was to cover the early season loss of the 21-goal man from the last campaign Barry Corr, and his own son Blair, will himself be out injured for the visit of Hereford United a week on Saturday, August 6th, at Roots Hall.
He said: “Liam has an ankle problem which will be cleared up in a couple of days but he hasn’t had much of a pre-season. It would be silly of me to involve him too early and make him play against Hereford because we don’t want him to keep on picking up injuries.”
So will Bilel Mosni start up front as the partner of scoring legend Neil Harris against the Bulls?
Smiling, Sturrock told the Echo: “You will just have to wait and see what I do." The tease!
Our money's on he will, unless we are being led up the garden path, not the first time, about the actual state of our new striking signing's ankle!
