Sturrock: New Shrimpers boss

Sturrock: 'The right decision was made'

Blues boss Paul Sturrock was in no doubt that after a floodlight fuse box caught alight causing two floodlights to fail, the referee made the correct decision to abandon the game as the fans safety has to come first.

Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "As soon as we heard there was a fire then we knew it had to be called off and the right decision was made. The safety of the supporters is the most important thing but before I knew about the fire I was a bit surprised and it was all very bizarre."

Cheltenham were leading the Shrimpers 1-0 when the players came off.
