Sturrock: Disappointed

Sturrock: 'Bilel has shown he can in football games'

So, a few hours after the news broke that Crawley Town were sniffing around our favourite French Tunisian Blues boss Paul Sturrock tells BBC Essex that as far as he's concerned Mohsni's going nowhere.

Not sure Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin would agree with that Luggs if a six-figure sum does come in, however Crawley never seemed right, not in the positions the two clubs hold in the present league table.

Sturrock said: "The decision with Bilel is quite simple, I think i've heard enough scenarios about him moving on and him doing this and him doing that. Bilel and I will have a conversation, possibly today, but as far as I'm concerned Bilel Mohsni will be here to the end of the season."

Can't argue with that, but reminding the canny Scot of his 'last chance saloon' comments in the past about the temperamental Parisian, it was back to Uncle Luggy mode.

He said: "I'm a great believer in sorting things out, he's shown to have assets to benefit this football team. In any forum at all it would be detrimental to our promotion push, he has shown he can in football games."

Well, yes, but he's also showed he can successfully piss off a few of his team mates in the process, and Sturrock had an answer for that.

He continued: "I've played with football players I didn't like as people but I was a footballer, part of the team, that's the way I look at it. At the end, (at Oldham, the infamous no coach home with his team-mates evening), there was a big disappointment, (he did say Liverpool, freudian slip there Luggs), I can be appreciative of that, but we are all in this together."

I can feel a song coming on, yet Luggy would not be distracted from his point that 'there will be harmony at this club, there is harmony at this football club."

Phew, I would rather have Luggy on my side that against me, even though it is looking as if the two-thirds of S24 readers that want Bilel to stay, and that probably covers the Shrimpers supporrt as a whole, will have their wish.

And he finished this part of the interview with a classic 'once more unto the breach dear friends' rallying cry: "I want all the players I want at this football club to be up and ready for the challenges ahead of us."

So who doesn't he want?

That question is for another article, but it's certainly looking as if Bilel is one he does; poor Jemal, he just didn't have enough 'assets'.
