Sturrock: 'I like restructuring football clubs and hopefully there's a new stadium on its way at Southend'

Not a hacker in sight as Blues boss Paul Sturrock gave an interview to the Sun newspaper which found him in good spirits after the week from hell and he gave his usual honest answers to all questions, including those about his illness.

As for remaining in the game, hopefully a few years yet, and the veteran Scot would hope it's with the Shrimpers.

Sturrock said: "Long-term, I want to be involved in football for as long as I can. Football is all I know. I don't want to change that. To be fair, I want to enjoy life as well. That's important. I enjoy my life away from football and I like a bit of gardening and I love cooking. But I am also loving this challenge here at Southend. On my first day in July 2010, I arrived to the training ground and there were only nine players – and five of them resigned. We had a transfer embargo, I had to cancel pre-season friendlies and I thought we would have to play our youth team in our first League game. But gradually, things have got a lot better. If we are lucky enough to be promoted automatically, it would probably be my best achievement. I would have a nice glow. I like restructuring football clubs and hopefully there's a new stadium on its way at Southend."

Blimey, would love to know what the favourite meal is in the Luggy household, celebrity masterchief next year? He wouldn't take any shit off the grocer from Peckam!

Any mention of Bilel? Well, no, but he admitted to calming down in his later years as the game has changed.

He said: "When I started as a manager, I was a maniac. I would rant all the time — I was a real disciplinarian. Now things have changed. There is blood rolling down the side of my lip – because I am always biting it. I would face things full-on and now I have to turn away, which I don't like. But that is the modern times. The current footballer has to be treated differently."

He does indeed, good stuff from Luggs as ever.
