Sampson: Would be quite a coup for the Shrimpers!

According to the Echo the Shrimpers are set to sign striker Jack Sampson from Premier League club Bolton Wanderers on an initial month long loan deal.

Once one of the countries most sought after teenagers, and a few still fancied him this present campaign, Jack has just extended his contract at the Reebok Stadium until 2013, but is still expected to sign on the dotted line for Southend later today and be in the squad in time for the Northampton Town League Two match Saturday afternoon: www.bwfc.co.uk

The now 18-year old Sampson has been with the Trotters since turning 13, and last September was selected for England’s under-19 squad for their friendly against Holland.

This would be a real coup to bring such a prospect to the club that had both Manchester clubs along with others fighting for his signature in 2008, www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11667_4288229,00.htmland saw local fan sites lamenting his possible loss back then: www.boltonbanter.com.

Even this season he looked like he was on his way to a higher level than the fourth tier at the start of the campaign!: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11672/7155708/Eyes-on-Bolton-starlet

If this turns out to be confirmed, CEO Tara Brady's lottery ticket was obviously a winner a couple of weeks ago, along with the signings of Elliot Benyon, Dave Martin and Michael Timlin; blimey, where is Blues boss Paul Sturrock going to fit them all, we're only allowed five subs!
