Southend V York at Roots Hall - Match Preview

Clifford banned for Shrimpers

Southend midfielder Conor Clifford will miss the visit of York as he serves the final game of his three-match ban.

Adam Thompson is back after representing Northern Ireland Under-21s in Italy last week, while Freddy Eastwood is in line for his first appearance in a month having overcome a knee problem.

Defender Julian Bennett remains on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury sustained on his Southend debut in early August.

Shrimpers boss Phil Brown may well decide to name an unchanged line-up as he chases a fourth successive win.

York's two new loan signings Nick Pope and Keith Lowe will be included in the squad.

Charlton goalkeeper Pope, drafted in as cover for the injured Michael Ingham (groin), is expected to go straight into the starting line-up, while central defender Lowe is also in contention.

The Minstermen will be boosted by the return of midfielder Josh Carson and winger Ryan Brobbel, who have been on international duty with Northern Ireland Under-21s.

On-loan defenders Luke O'Neill (Burnley) and Ben Davies (Preston) are also expected to return to the side after being refused permission to play in the midweek FA Cup replay defeat to Bristol Rovers by their parent clubs.
