Southend V Yeovil at Roots Hall - Match Preview

Trio in Shrimpers frame

Southend manager Phil Brown is pondering whether to include his three latest signings from the off for the Capital One Cup visit of Yeovil.

Striker Craig Reid, midfielder Conor Clifford and defender Julian Bennett all arrived at Roots Hall in the build-up to Saturday's 1-0 win over Plymouth but had to make do with bit-part roles.

Despite being relatively short of match fitness the trio could be thrown in from the off against the Glovers, although boss Brown is reluctant to make too many changes as he strives to progress in the competition.

Winger Kevan Hurst missed out altogether at the weekend with a knee injury and will be assessed.

Gary Johnson looks set to rest a number of his key players.

The Yeovil manager oversaw a historic 1-0 win over Millwall on Saturday in their first-ever match at this level and he looks set to shuffle his pack for the Roots Hall clash with a side two divisions below them.

Jamie McAllister is yet to feature since leading his side to promotion at Wembley and will miss out again but the likes of Billy Clifford, Joel Grant and Kieffer Moore will hope to make their Glovers debuts.

While Marek Stech looks certain to retain his place in goal there could be a number of players left in Somerset with a home clash with Birmingham on the horizon.
